Our Adventures in Kansas! ? Surviving Motherhood

by Kimberly on April 10, 2012

We?ve been having a lot of fun being here in Kansas with my Dad?s side of the family (even though we are missing Daddy like CRAZY!) over Easter. We drove to Kansas from Cincy, which is usually about a 12 hour drive depending on how many times you need to stop. Luke has always been my little traveler so not much phases him during plane rides, car rides, etc. I was especially thankful he is so easy going when we pulled in a gas station about 3-4 hours away from our destination and the truck refused to start. And of course there aren?t any mechanics or rental car places open nearby at 4:00pm on the Saturday before Easter. Thankfully, we had family about 45 minutes away from us who came and picked us up and took us to Kansas City Airport to get a rental car so we could continue our drive and we were only delayed by about 3 hours so it wasn?t all bad. The truck and trailer were towed to a nearby dealer were they would find a nice surprise when they came back to work Monday morning! Turns out it was a relatively minor fix and we will hope for an uneventful drive home later this week!

I haven?t been back here since my Grandfather passed away last October but it feels so comforting and relaxing to be here enjoying time with family. Usually we are in and out within a long weekend without much time to relax. This makes a nice change for us and it?s a lot of fun seeing Luke enjoy the same house I?ve known all my life. There?s something pretty special when you see your kids playing with the same old toys you used to love so much as a kid.

Life here is uncomplicated and all about the simple pleasures in life. It?s so nice to get away from the busy home life we have and sit still in quiet for longer than 5 minutes! Sit on the front porch, drink some iced tea (decaf for pregnant mama please!), eat some fried chicken and help yourself to one of many freshly baked pies. YUM. It?s no wonder in the movies they always choose these small country towns for someone to get stranded in and have a life changing experience! Ha!

What traveling adventures have you had and where do you go to visit family that you LOVE to visit?!
