Greenberg in driver's seat at Fuel

Fox-owned Fuel TV has named George Greenberg, who helped launch Fox Sports 17 years ago, as its exec veep and general manager. Greenberg replaces CJ Olivares, who ankled the channel Tuesday. Greenberg will oversee Fuel's day-to-day operations including research, programming, development, scheduling, production, on-air promotion, marketing and communications. He will also be tasked with developing existing and new areas for revenue growth, including multiplatform initiatives. "In his 17 years at Fox, George has consistently demonstrated that he's among the most talented television executives I've ever worked with, no matter what the assignment," Fox Sports Media Group chairman David Hill said. "Having a keen eye for talent, set design, program content and promotion, he has the ability to create programs from scratch and take existing shows and make them better, and I'm confident he'll use all his skills to the long-term benefit of Fuel TV." Since 2007, Greenberg served under Hill as FSMG exec veep of programming and production, with a recent emphasis on developing programs for Fuel's sister channel, Speed. He also headed national programming, scheduling, event production and development for Fox Sports Net from 2001-2008. "I'm looking forward to injecting myself into all the various components of Fuel TV's operations as quickly as possible, as we transition to a network with a broader male appeal," Greenberg said. "My first priorities are to strengthen the quality of our action sports programming and then identify and/or develop attractive programs that help broaden our base while not straying too far from our core." A 16-time Emmy-winning producer whose career includes seven years at ABC Sports, Greenberg was exec producer of Fox Sports' "Best Damn Sports Show Period," "Beyond the Glory" and various studio shows. He was Fox's marketing EVP from 1997-2000. Nearing its eighth birthday, Fuel is seen in more than 30 million U.S. homes.
