Apple's iPhone 5 Outsells Rivals Over Festive Period !

Apple's iPhone 5 was the best selling smartphone in the world in the last quarter of 2012 according to new research.

?

The research, conducted by Strategy Analysis, reveals that Apple sold a whopping 27.4 million iPhone 5's over the festive period giving the smartphone a 12.6 per cent share of the global smartphone market.

?

Things get even better for Apple because the iPhone 4S grabbed second place in the chart with sales of 17.4 million in the quarter. This accounted for 8 per cent of total smartphone sales and gave Apple's two devices a combined share of over 20 per cent of the market.

?

Apple will be pleased to get some good news after the strong push by Samsung and the recent embarrassments caused by iOS Maps and iOS 6.1. However, Apple's sales are always strong over the Christmas period so we'll have to see how they fare in 2013 !

?

Samsung's Galaxy S3 was the 3rd best selling smartphone in the last quarter of 2013 with the Korean company selling 15.4 million units of its flagship smartphones. Samsung won't be too concerned because they are to announced their Galaxy S4 next month so a lot of people are waiting patiently for that.

?

2013 looks set to be very interesting year in the smartphone world with Apple under strong pressure from Samsung, Nokia, Sony and even themselves. They have a reputation to repair after a number of software blunders, while they still need to prove they can cope without Steve Jobs.
